Carolina PR Helps Union County Unveil Vision for 5,000 Acre Regional Business Park
The Union County Partnership for Progress (UCPP) held a forum for community, business and elected leaders throughout Union County, N.C., to unveil the findings of a feasibility study for a major regional business park in the eastern part of the county that could eventually be the largest of its kind in the state.
Commissioned by the Duke Energy Economic Development Division, a site readiness study was conducted by nationally recognized site selection and land planning consultants McCallum Sweeney and O’Brien Atkins.
Carolina PR worked with the UCPP economic development organization to hold the leadership forum and create the strategic communication plan to introduce the regional business park to the community.
Project Legacy is the working name for the proposed 5,000-acre industrial and business park located north of U.S. Highway 74 in eastern Union County, near Marshville. The southern boundary of the site studied runs along Highway 74, adjacent to the east/west main CSX rail line.
The park is envisioned as a major southeastern industrial and commercial hub with easy access to major interstates, international and regional airports and established rail lines that extend to coastal seaports. Upon completion of the planned Monroe bypass, the western entrance to Project Legacy would be a short distance to Interstate-485 and allow even faster access to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg area.
While Project Legacy would be developed over many decades, planning and development of Phase 1 can start immediately. As currently conceived, Phase 1 would encompass approximately 1,750 acres and include a new rail facility that will be the park’s transportation backbone and offer businesses an attractive competitive advantage.
It would also accommodate many rail served industrial sites, light industrial sites and areas for office and educational institutions. Other non-rail uses could be developed jointly as a corporate headquarters with mixed office and commercial space.
The Union County Partnership for Progress provides countywide economic development services to the people of Union County and is spearheading the development of Project Legacy.
Supported by numerous public and private sector partners, Union County Partnership for Progress is focused on developing a stronger, more diverse and sustainable economy for Union County citizens. The Partnership pursues a mix of short and long-term programs to generate business activity, from recruiting new businesses, expanding and retaining existing companies, and creating relationships and plans that will secure Union County’s long-range economic vitality.
